B-29 Crewman - Sam Parks

Sam Parks - Pilot over Tokyo

The Kansas Aviation Museum welcomed Sam Parks, World War II B-29 pilot, as a keynote speaker to the "Hero in the Hangar Luncheon" Friday, December 5.  The luncheon was held at the hangar in which "DOC", the B-29 currently under restoration at Boeing, is housed.

Mr. Parks earned the Silver Star for guiding his severely damaged aircraft and crew to a life-saving crash landing on the island of Iwo Jima.  He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Purple Heart.

Over 75 retired Boeing workers and other volunteers have come together everyday for the past 3 years in a "Labor of Love."  These Wichitan's are working together to restore "DOC", built here in Wichita in 1944 and the last B-29 in the world capable of being restored.

Dawson Grimsley, Davis-Moore, believes that Wichita needs to come together to provide a public hanger for "DOC" so that we can keep aviation history alive in Wichita, the Air Capital of the World.  Dawson is spearheading  fundraising efforts to raise the needed funds to build a public hanger to keep and display this beautifully restored aircraft.

Davis-Moore is asking the community to support Wichita's Aviation history.  Tax deductible donations will be accepted at any Davis-Moore location, any Boeing Credit Union location or at any Bank of America.
